Annual Report on the Aerial Use of 1080
The 2008 Annual Report on the Aerial Use of 1080 is out now and includes details of aerial pest control operations, reports on incidents and research projects completed or underway. The report is part of the Authority’s commitment to tighter management around the aerial use of 1080, following its decision in 2007 to allow the continued use of 1080, with additional controls. ERMA New Zealand Hazardous Substances General Manager Andrea Eng says while it is too early to see trend data emerging, the report indicates the controls and recommendations put in place by the Authority are having a positive effect. To view or download the annual report, click here, or visit the 1080 pages on the ERMA New Zealand website. Safety alert for SCUBA cylindersERMA New Zealand has issued a safety alert concerning the filling of aluminium SCUBA and SCBA cylinders made from Alloy 6351. The problem can affect all cylinders made from 6351 aluminium alloy and is not limited to any one design or manufacturer. The alloy is no longer used in the manufacture of cylinders, so only cylinders made before 1991 are affected. Failures can occur during filling of a cylinder as a result of diametrically opposed neck cracks. ERMA recommends thorough visual and hydrostatic tests at regular intervals to detect cracks well before they become dangerous. Read more ...
